16. ELISHA CUMMINGS (bp. 1719–1790), son of Isaac Cummings and Abigail Boardman

Elisha Cummings was baptized on 2 August 1719 in Topsfield. [TVR][ERC] He married first Mary Andrews of Boxford on 22 November 1744 in Topsfield. [TVR1] He married second Jerusha, the widow of Caleb Marston, on 30 July 1766. [CM]


Ensign Elisha Cummings of Topsfield was a soldier in Captain Israel Davis's company, Colonel Bagley's regiment in the French and Indian Wars. He was on the Crown Point Expedition in February 1756 and at Fort William Henry in August 1756. [FIW]

i. Mary Cummings was born on 13 February 1745/6 in Topsfield. [TVR] She married John Bradford of Pelham. [CM]

ii. John Cummings was baptised on 13 September 1747. [TVR] John, the infant son of Elisha, died on 24 September 1747 in Topsfield. [TVR2]

iii. John Cummings was born on 8 February 1748/9. [CM]

iv. Andrew Cummings was born on 8 February 18[7?]48/9 in Topsfield. [TVR] He died on 12 February 1748/9. [CM]

v. Isaac Cummings was born on 24 April 1751 in Topsfield. [TVR]

vi. Elisha Cummings was born on 20 September 1754 in Topsfield. [TVR] He married Elizabeth Marston. [CM1]

vii. Nathaniel Cummings was born on 16 June 1761.

viii. Hannah Cummings married John Russell. [CM]

ix. Andrew Cummings was born on 10 May 1777. [CM] He died of palsy on 15 August 1868, age 88, in Bridgewater. [CM1] He married Hannah Crawford. [CM1]
